A pair of solid eighteen carat yellow gold and sapphire 'wrap' cufflinks. This pair of unusual and very stylish cufflinks are designed to go around the outside of the complete cuff, a style not seen today. Each cufflink has a sprung hinge at the top edge of the center bar, which allows one side to hinge open. This can then be passed through the button hole of the shirt, and then snapped shut, forming a complete 'U' shape.
The cufflinks are quite unique as the element that wraps around the outside of the cuff is a soldered chain detail. Each side of the cufflink that sits in the cuff button hole is marked with a stunning bullet shaped cabochon sapphire, adding an elegant additional detail. They are very easy to use, and snap shut with a very reassuring "click".
Operating all sounds rather complicated, but in fact they are very easy to use, wear and comfortable on the cuff. They help bring the cuff to an elegant point and allow space for the cuff to open up around a watch, if so desired.
They are beautifully made with a clean design lending them both applicable to be worn in an evening, and a work place setting. They are French made with a series of three eagle head French assay marks, for eighteen carat yellow gold, on each bar on each cufflink. They are both signed with a French maker marks along with, quite unusually, a unique stamped serial number on the inside of each bar. This is akin to what the top French jewellery houses like; Cartier, Boucheron and Van Cleef & Arpels do for their inventory. The makers marks on the cufflinks are sadly a little rubbed and cannot be deciphered. So, we have not been able to identify the maker.
French made, Circa 1970's.
